Does anyone else here experience brain fog?
What causes it? I always feel like my brain produces word salad when I go through examinations, thinking without actually thinking.
Even if I come across a simple concept that I went through a hundred times, my thought process becomes so unclear and confused that I struggle with it.

It feels like I have brick walls blocking my synapses. Similar feeling to how my brain anticipates a stutter during speech.
I don't use any psychedelics, nor do I smoke.

What's the cause, scientifically?

If ice is less dense than water and floats, causing greater surface area displacement when adding water + ice, then the melting of said ice shouldn't cause rising sea levels but lowering sea levels.

This wasn't ever addressed during my public schooling either. They just said "ice melting = rising sea levels.

This is not political, I don't care about that and this thread isn't for that.

That sounds implausible considering how much water is on Earth in the liquid phase compared to the gaseous phase, but if you wanted to you could definitely do some back-of-the-envelope math and come up with a good answer. I'd start by getting the total volume of water vapor and liquid water on Earth (including groundwater connected to the oceans), pulling the amount of water vapor entering the armosphere from the literature, then comparing to the thermal expansion of the liquid water. I don't wanna do that it sounds like a real pain, but you definitely could.

Why is the Fermi Paradox a "paradox"?

The Fermi Paradox is based on the assumption that the universe is full of life. What exactly is this idea based on? How can you measure how likely or unlikely it is for life to come about on its own in a certain part of the universe? How do you know that is even possible to begin with?

It's a complete joke. It's based on something that some people pulled out of their wild imagination, not something that could be objectively measured and experimented with. In science fiction the universe is full of life but that's why it's called "fiction."

I had to let this out because the Fermi Paradox is one of my pet peeves.

If your stance on that is that life is exceedingly rare to the popint we're the only intelligent species within a billion of light years (and lets assumed that you're correct) then there's no paradox.

i started to learn math at 24, enrolled for uni at 26 and im graduating with a math/cs double major degree at 30. if you are really starting out from nothing i recommend you do this:

>exhaust all the khan academy math modules, they are efficient in bringing you up-to-speed and will prepare you for university math

>after you learn calculus and linear algebra, learn how to write and come up with proofs, How To Prove It and Book of Proof are both good books

do that and you'll have a very strong foundation to learn and do whatever the fuck you want with math. The goal is to get experience by doing the khan academy modules and getting good at computing and recognizing symbols. After that learning calculus and linear algebra at a first year uni level will be the "capstone" in how well you can parse and compute values. Once you do that you'll be comfortable enough with math to tackle proofs. You can do proofs way earlier but a lot of people take for granted how much their comfort with math helps them with the formal stuff.

Approach one, more academic - start with precalculus or calculus 1 depending on your knowledge. At the same time do some "intro to proofs" course.
Approach two - try "Gödel, Escher, Bach". I've heard that several people got inspired by this book to study Math or CS.
