Why the fuck are there 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour it seems so stupid, if it was 100 seconds per minute it'd be a lot simpler to calculate and organise time. For eg someone asks you how many seconds there are in a day, you immediately go 24*60*60 which just seems retarded if there was 100 seconds in a minute you could just figure out that 1440min *100 = seconds but instead it has weird values created by the babylonians.

look at Stewart Calc Books, there's big sets of problems at the of each section, around 30-40 problems per section. If you're looking for precalc problems the first chapters will help you on it.

stimulus -> sensors -> internal representation of sensor signals.

You can decompose the y from P(x|y) into P(y|z), or probability of sensor reading from true external stimulus z, but it becomes kind of redundant at some point.

There are an infinite number of representations in theory, but every organism is going to be biased to a particular set of representations.

This infinity math doesn't take place within the individual if that makes it clearer. That is just a description of the space of possible representations.

As long as every time you encounter red, you "perceive" red, that is good enough. The statistical regularity is what your brain cares about, because that is what is useful to it.

Shannon's Information theory has a lot to say about this if you want a more in-depth understanding. The transmission of information is what is useful.

However, the next statement, they say geminal and vicinal protons split. Why does that not happen in the example? Someone from class said it's because the compound was symmetric, but the geminal skeleton they showed could easily be symmetric as well.

1) in proton nmr you observe spin intetactions between hydrogens, if the hydrogens are chemically equivalent they do not split each others signals

2) splitting between geminal hydrogens is kinda rare in simple molecules and are due to sterical factors and molecule geometry, see a molecule of a vinyl chloride, the two hydrogens on one of the carbons are not equivalent because one of them is locked in a position closer to the chlorine atom

3) hydrogens in your model molecule are equivalent, they all have exactly the same surrounding
If one of the chlorine molecule was changed for bromine for example, the geminal protons would still be equivalent (they can be mirrored into each other), but if you would see splitting between vicinal protons since they no longer have the same surrounding

This makes sense to me, I think the biggest confusion I had was the exapmles they showed where splitting is observed. Were you saying that the different color Ha and Hb was supposed to make me assume they are in non chemically equivalent environments?

ex: If I had 2-Fluoroethanol, on C1, there would be a different chemical environment for Ha since it is has a vinyl F near Ha. On the other hand, Hb is bound to the vinyl hydroxy group.

Is this what the different colored protons wanted us to assume, that on those sigma bonds, there would be different R?

feels wasted lol but thx fren. I guess im feeling more confused now because when i keep looking, the book seemed to move on and only focus on the n+1 rule and so did online. I asked some people in my class and the guy who tried explaining couldn't really explain why the Geminal protons were equivalent in the model molecule besides stating that they were symmetric and if they weren't the geminal wouldn't cause splitting but the vicinal would.

Giving it a quick look, it's a signal generator of different shapes: Pulse, triangular, sine, sawtooth. And because of the jacks symbols it's probably for audio applications, i.e. some fag synthwave sound music.

About the triclosan molecule, i don't think there's any relation to it.
