How come I have never heard this before

I'm in the process of learning probability and statistics, but I simply cannot force myself to go through these abstract books. Has anyone read any books they can recommend on gambling ("applied probability and statistics") -- or anything of that sort -- that puts all the math into a real-word context?

Two Functions Same Axis of Symmetry Same Roots

How come the second function shares the same roots and axis of symmetry after I factored out -1/5 from the first function, yet has a completely different graph other than where the roots meet? Of course, if I divide or multiple all the terms of a polynomial, the graph will be different, but why are the roots and the axis of symmetry preserved under polynomial multiplication and division by a constant?
