Yeah right, bet that study is bullshit.

If brain phenotypes are a thing at all then any study would need to observe not just transgender individuals but a very wide spectrum of people with differing sexualities and personalities. Frankly if there is a gendered phenotype then surely there are males and females that have the opposite phenotype but still function as their birth sex would also have to exist. Perhaps in men that like to dance and women that do metal work, for stereotypical examples.

there's been an explosion of progress in the last 10 years which took us from no quantum computer to a gimped "noisy" one where you can achieve computation but it's error prone (but still does useful things). Progress is very brisk, but the problems are very hard. All experts say that it's approximately about 50 years of developing theoretical and practical technology to achieve something close. These advances are already fruitful without having a full machine implemented.

The current crop can do interesting things for sure but whether they can do anything useful at the moment is still under investigation. Would be very cool if you could obtain quantum speedup on a useful problem at this stage but speedup on non-useful stuff is also neat.

All signs point to yes but only for *incredibly* niche problems. Like, not just scientific/industrial problems but only very specific types of scientific problems. Like all technology, it's just a tool to be used where appropriate.

It's an interesting field to work in. But there's also plenty of bunk research being done, wasting grant/investor money (like any research field). Almost every claim about QCs comes with about 50 asterisks, and if someone isn't disclosing that fact then they're trying to sell you by overhyping it.

What temperature did humans evolve to live in? Shouldn't that temperature be most comfortable to us? Surely we conquered the globe faster than our bodies could evolve to deal with the new temperatures and climates.

Based on what I learned in school, the first humans were Black people that originated in central-east Africa and then through genetic variation they separated into several races around the world over a period of 10,000 years.

Now my teachers told me that there's only 10,000 year genetic difference between Blacks and all the other races, so does that mean we are all adjusted for living in Central Africa?

Because Central Africa still seems too hot for me. So shouldn't we be evolved by now for feeling comfortable in our own climate? I presume that wherever I was evolved to live in will be the perfect temperature for me all year round.

Sorry for making an actual science thread and making people use their brains but please if anybody has any sources and information then please feel free to contribute.

If it’s like math I’d say the main change is some terminology. For example in Kolomogov’s intro to real analysis he calls a “linear space” what today we’d call a “vector space”. It’s understandable in context but a little weird.
