Scientists will probably never know everything, and the summation of what they do know is purely physical alone and has no existential power.
They can delay man's death by a few decades. They can move faster than usual. They can kill people faster than they used to be able to. And that's about it. Can't do anything else, still can't tell you where the universe came from. The big bang is just the model and doesn't explain where the mass/energy came from.

Would it be possible to use an industrial powered laser to launch a projectile like pic related at a target several miles away? Assuming the laser had a barrel to guide the projectile, why wouldn't this work? You may even be able to use a handheld laser to fire off flechette sized rounds at medium ranges.

I go to a school that's so-so prestige-wise, but has a very innovative and well-funded research program in my specific area of interest. As a result, I have an undergraduate research position that has given me a deeper background in my field than I ever would've received at a top 10 engineering school. It remains to be seen how this will translate when applying for jobs/grad school, but I'm effectively working in the same job as an undergrad that I want to when I graduate.
