thot experiment:
suppose that setting foot on Mars became humanity's first priority and each individual and institution would organize in such a way that tried to achieve this in the least amount of time possible. In such a world, how long do you think it would take till that happened?

Same question for human-level AI technological singularity and mind-uploading/whole brain emulation as well. (if you think they are possible in practice)

How do I stop making mistakes?
Today I had a very important math exam. I could have gotten 100/100 but I mistook a - for a +.
4 years ago I took part in the national math olympiad. There again I lost 3/7 points in a problem because I wasn't carefull and wrote plus instead of minus.
Why the fuck does this shit keep happening to me?

We'll never really know what dinosaurs looked like

No.13338649 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Paleontologists have made great progress figuring out how to reconstruct skeletons, apply muscle, prove the existence of feathers & determine the color sometimes but look at birds. They have so much crazy variation with crests, waddles ways of displaying their feathers etc Dinosaurs probably did as well but that just can't survive in the fossil record. And now I feel sad.

Why do Asian countries so smart?

No.13339238 ViewReplyOriginalReport
I would imagine they needed to adapt more, meaning the smartest would reproduce and carry on the gene's of intellect. What hardships did these Asian countries go for? Do I have it wrong?

Babies masturbate?

No.13331031 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hi,
I was discussing with a coomer about NoFap and he was trying to justify him being a degenerate coomer who faps.
One of his argument was that "even babies as old as 18 months masturbate, it's natural human behavior, NoFap is autism".

Then he linked a bunch of studies.

Now, I have an hard time believing this nonsense. I don't want to say the wrong things on /sci/, because jannies here are faggots that will ban me for nothing, but it feels like propaganda (((they))) made to justify the modern degeneracy we are seeing in the West in relation to pornography and masturbation.

Is it really scientifically true that "even babies masturbate"? Because I don't remember masturbating as a baby. It seems to me like a bad attempt at rationalizing degenerate behaviors, by also smearing the purity of infants in the process.

Envelope thread #2.
The last thread >>13316297 is about to reach its bump limit.
It seems like we've settled on the conclusion that there is no reason to switch, given that the $10 doesn't actually tell us anything new.

An interesting counterintuitive conclusion: if you're given a choice to take $10 or flip a coin to get either $5 or $20, it's just as rational to flip the coin, as is to stick with $10, even though the expected value of flipping the coin is higher. This just goes to show how different one-time events are from the situation where you have repeated trials.
