hi /sci/ how can I bring my self to love and be passionate about science?
I am just doing it cause that’s the only thing I am good at. Seeing friends building projects or solving problems on their free time saddens because I know I can do such things if really put my self.
I blame my parents for my misery. They never cared about science they never pushed me to have hobbies, read Si-Fi books they only cared about grades and made me revise school materials countless times even if I don’t need to.
I am European btw

Do intelligent people switch 'effect' and 'affect' or say 'irregardless'?

I have always thought not, but then I saw the brightest mind of our time say 'irregardless'.
Also I have very often seen people on /sci/ present solid arguments but use 'affect' when they mean 'effect' or vice-versa.
Am I a snob, am I pedantic, do I take my education for granted, or are there actually different kinds of intelligence?

Hey /sci/ will I make it in the IT and land a successful 6 figure code monkey job with this iq,I don't know if I'm smart enough to actually contribute something positive in that field . I'm also new to coding. Btw will I be able to be make it computer science or heck physics,mathematics by the off chance and be a successful researcher and land that dream come true tenured position or at the very least land a top job at an investment bank?

Axiom of choice general /ACG/

Axiom of choice doesn't seem to make sense when talking about dense ordered sets, yet it is used as a justification for many statements in branches that range from measure theory to abstract algebra. Is there any substitute for Zorn's lemma or any other variant that doesn't require outlandish assumptions?

You’ve got a virgin universe, complete with all fields, but no matter at all except for one star and a clock that is running on the star’s surface. Of course that means that nowhere in your universe is space a flat, perfect, cubic coordinate system because the star is bending it somewhat, everywhere. Even very very far away from the star space is still curved by the star’s mass even though the distortion is so slight that only God can see it.

At time t=0, you will a planet into existence a distance d away from the star. It’s literal new mass in the universe that wasn’t there before, and you poofed it into existence. Due to gravity, that planet will be attracted to the star and they’ll move toward each other.

Question is: What time does the clock on the star’s surface read upon the very instant at which the planet begins to move?
