What would it take for massive interplanetary craft to exist?

Now that the dust has settled. Who was in the wrong?

Somebody suggested that the question of whether numbers exist is the same kind of question as to whether colors exist; in that they are both questions about mental phenomenon.
However, numbers are more than mental phenomenon. Objects possess numerical attributes independently of mental experiences.
What's really a good equivalent to the question of whether numbers exist?

Redpill me on optical computing and photonics, /sci/.
From the very brief Google searches I've made on the subject the prospect of creating optical processors or co-processors seems extremely exciting to me. At least it probably can cut the amount of time needed for physics- and chemistry-related calculations which is always a plus. But I never was really good with optics, and I have no idea how underlying processes work and where should I begin if I want to take on this field of study.
What is the theoretical minimum I need to begin to understand optical computing and underlying mechanisms? Links or directions to any good reads would be greatly appreciated.
Are there any good journals I should keep my eye on? Is there even anything new going on in this field or it's completely dead?
Should I even be hyped? Are there any hidden obstacles that prevent a viable product from appearing as a result of research?

Why is DNA so powerful? It figured out how to fly, twice. First DNA cheated its way into the sky by indirectly using evolution to make birds fly. Then DNA became meta and learned directly how to fly using primates.

Are we ruining our genes /sci/?

I mean natural selection doesn't really apply to humans anymore.
Disabled people, people with gen defects, people with poor physical or mental health, they all can get treatments and have a somewhat normal life and procreate.
I don't want to sound like a polnazi but as you can see the "weak" aren't dying anymore and their bad or defect genes mix with other humans, doesn't that cause humanity as a whole problems in the future?

Another thing to consider is that educated people usually have less kids than uneducated people.
Not sure if that is a problem, but I personally get the feeling the average joe is getting dumber and dumber.

Do the risks of consuming animal products outweigh the benefits?
