I'd like to study math. Would it do me any good to study these so-called 'foundations of mathematics' (logic, set theory, et cetera) before moving onto some topic like pre-algebra? The texts on these fields that I have skimmed don't appear to assume any mathematical knowledge that I don't currently have. Could studying these foundations first improve and support my later learnings, or would this be really retarded?

A basic grasp (CS freshman level) is essential.
The basics are taught in the 1st discrete math course for CS majors.

But Advanced (Upper-division/Graduate) electives in Logics and Set theory for Math majors can get pretty hardcore.
An unnecessary complication, unless you wish to do a PhD later in Math or CS.

If you’re just learning for fun I’d suggest finding a topic you like and working through a book on it. It’s common for books that require proof writing to give a brief overview of formal logic and set theory in the introduction — that will give you everything you need to know to understand the contents.

If you find you’re really struggling with understanding how the author is jumping from one conclusion to the next then consider spending some time with an introductory book on proof writing.

I personally found it very helpful to take an introduction to set theory and formal logic class, but your mileage my vary. Some people find it boring and obvious.

Hello everyone.
I’m writing my masters thesis and I need help with some data.
I have a list of 6000 US companies. I would like to get the Bloomberg ticker for every single one of them and download the last 20 years of stock price data from Bloomberg.
Does anyone know how to do this in python? I have the Bloomberg license and API and everything, but whenever I google it I only find Pajeets trying to sell their coding classes.

This seems really basic..
I know how to do it with the RobinHood API as far back as the data goes and I only spent like a few days learning it.
I mean teaching you the basics of how to use Bloomberg API isn't really science or math now is it? I'm assuming you can't just ask Bloomberg for the whole 20 years in one go, maybe you can get like a year of closes at a time.
You just need an array of strings with the tickers, and then two nested loops that grab the data for each year for each ticker.
To get the tickers from the company names I mean I would probably use excel, does that part have to be in Python too?

The question is if our concepts (i.e. classes such as "man" or "mortal", etc.) are valid then so is deduction and induction. Deduction is to identify something as a member of a class (Socrates is mortal) whereas induction is identifying a trait, property or relationship of a class (All men are mortal). Things get tricky with induction because you can identify *qualified* traits, properties or relationships such as the identification that *some* men are rational.
