What is the scientific explanation for dreaming?

One night when I had extremely vivid dreams, the next morning I felt really refreshed. And I could remember the dreams very well. Based on my personal testimony, my theory is that having dreams is like booting your brain. Vivid dreams especially are the brain's way of dealing with all the unnecessary bullshit that you've caused it to deal with. It's like shutting down all the programs that are running on the background wasting energy and restarting the system. Those things could be stress, anxiety, overthinking too many subjects at once, etc. When the brain starts a process of shutting those things down when it's too much, it manifests as dreams.

Why cant science just admit it doesnt know stuff instead of making these half arsed guesses.

I got taught about the big bang and dark matter in school like it was some locked in certain thing. Why cant they just say we dont know how the universe got here and we dont know what 99% of the matter in the universe is and leave it at that?

Why teach us a bad guess that is going to turn out to be wrong anyway.

Could you send information faster than the speed of light with an extremely long stiff rod or do the pushing/pulling forces travelling down the rod still only propagate at the speed of light?
