?2-adrenoceptor antagonist, yohimbine: anxiety

No.13455375 ViewReplyOriginalReport
if an antagonist blocks the effect of a neurotransmitter on a receptor (noradrenaline on a2 receptors in this case), then why does yoihimibine cause anxiety?

Why don't we have a virophage vaccine yet???

Literally perfect against covid because it evolves with the virus and variants Don't impact it's effectiveness. It can also be administered retroactively once someone is already infected

Will it ever be possible to remember our ancestors' lives?

I think this idea will always remain in the sci-fi/new age realm but did science ever find something that could suggest otherwise?

Any of you guys can recommend some books?

No.13449081 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Won't even try asking /lit/ since that place is full of "psychologists", fantasy fans, edgy deep symbolism lovers, this sort of thing.

Science books will be fine too, at least those which could introduce me it's topics.

The absolute state of modern academia

No.13455824 ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'm trying to do some background research for my bachelors thesis, and I noticed that there's a shit ton of really poor quality papers out there. I've been searching the ACM and IEEE databases, and there are lots of papers that have been cited zero times. Many of them are also really brief and it almost seems like the haven't actually even researched anything.

Is modern "science" really like this? Do people just shit out useless papers on purpose or what?

Get me out of uni

No.13422740 ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Get me out of uni. I'm a senior engineering student, been grade levels ahead since I entered, summa GPA, three years laboratory experience, the whole bit. Since freshman year my plan was to get a PhD but after watching, for example, how the Harvard nanotechnology was chaired by a spy from CCP, I can't stand the idea. I know what I want to study, and I know where I can find it (MITOCW etc.). When I ask professors questions about physics, biology etc. from my own curiosity they don't know the answer and need me to explain the question. Why spend 6 years with these lying clowns who produce non-reproducible research when I can write my own thesis in theoretical biophysics while making bank as an engineer in the private sector?

Are there any books I can read to learn about how vaccines are made, what's in it, why certain ingredients are used, history, etc. I don't want any schizo books with some political angle (literally all I could find on Amazon) just books that go into detail about vaccines.
