Vaccines & Placebo/Nocebo

No.13658568 ViewReplyOriginalReport
With all the "Do not dare to talk bad about X" and general censorship, I started to wonder about Placebo and Nocebo effects on the mRNA vaccines, i.e.: As long as I believe it works the way it is intended to, it will work the way it is intended to.
I was looking up the study "Safety and Efficacy of the BNT162b2 mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine" [ https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmoa2034577 ], but being a brainlet I require help understanding a small part of the chapter Methods - Efficacy.
> Among 36523 participants who had no evidence of existing or prior SARS-CoV-2 infection, 8 cases of Covid-19 with onset at least 7 days after the second dose were observed among vaccine recipients and 162 among placebo recipients.
How is it that the numbers for the whole placebo-group (18325) are so low (162 of 18325 => 0.8840%), considering NCoVs notorious infectivity? Is it known if everybody actually had contact with the occuring NCoV?
On a sidenote in favour of recovered people:
> Among participants with and those without evidence of prior SARS CoV-2 infection, 9 cases of Covid-19 at least 7 days after the second dose were observed among vaccine recipients and 169 among placebo recipients, corresponding to 94.6% vaccine efficacy (95% CI, 89.9 to 97.3).
Assuming the deltas of prior infected (Nv=19965-18198=1767 and Np=20172-18325=1847), the prior infected+vaccinated (Vi=9-8=1), the prior infected+placeboed (Pi=169-162=7), corresponding percentage of failed protection as X people got COVID again (VEvi=Nv/Vi=1767/1=>0.06% / VEpi=Np/Pi=1847/7=>0.38%) and contra-probability of people not getting sick again (EFvi=100%-0.06%=99.94% / EFpi=100%-0.38%=99.62%) for vaccinated/placebo'd with pre-infection, shouldn't recovered people be at least as well-regarded as vaccinated people?

Thanks for any clarifications/corrections.

Covid Lab Leak True

No.13651121 ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Why are people continuing to decline that covid originated in a lab and insist on a zoonotic origin? I don't know where /sci/ stands on this but the evidence is overwhelming. Thoughts?
(No /pol/ content just focused on the /sci/ take on covid's origins)

Could we use eugenics to create a race of really long lived humans? By continuously breeding people with favorable family histories.
What would happen if this went on for millenia? Just a mild capped increase to like 150 years or something extreme like 500-1000 years?

science is retarded

No.13649774 ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
science is such stupid bullshit for pseud stemcels who feel that their only shot at reproducing is wageslaving for enough money that maybe some day a post wall whore will want to divorce rape them. let me tell you why.

say that i have a billiard ball, and it is rolling towards another billiard ball. the first ball hits the second and the second ball starts to move. classic physics experiment. my question to you is: how can we infer motion in the second ball from the impulse and motion in the first?

now, before you start telling me about elastic collisions and kinetic energy and momentum, let me stop you right there. no relations of force and power can actually be detected from the observable phenomena that a ball is in motion, it hits another ball, and the second ball starts motion. the kinematic equations you are thinking of are attempts by physicists to bridge the gap between phenomena. but these connections have one fatal flaw: they assume that instances of which we have had no experience must resemble those of which we have had experience. They assume that things will continue to be uniformly the same. And this is fundamentally unprovable. You will never be able to explain this, because it is beyond our understanding

If 50% of people question whether the vaccine works, and 0% of people question whether the virus is real, does that mean the virus is definitely fake?

>guys i am vaccinated and got covid
>so get vaccinated so you dont get covid
>but you still can get it and spread it
>so everyone around you needs to be vaccinated as well
>but everyone vaccinated around you can still get it and spread it

why is science like this?
