Is the lack of Y-chromosome a good indicator that someone is a woman? How do you tell qualitatively?

>>14374378 I mean XX chromosomes lead to the development of ovaries and since there is no testes to produce test (MIH hormone and DHT not produced either), theres the internal genitlia that comes about from being a female (absence of test leads to "default " female genitalia) and also external genitlaia. Of course there can be problems like peripheral conversion of androgenic compounds. But there needs to be high levels of test in an XX individual during fetal development for there to be any male external genitalia. This is where there is intersex as a categorisation come into play. Intersex doesnt alway pertain to the chromosomes, like i mentioned before it can do with various reasons like androgen receptors not functioning the way they ought to and test can be converted to estro and vice versa. Its really not very clear cut and theres varying degrees to each intersex individuals symptoms.
I think for the majority of individuals a functioning set of XX chromosomes, proper ovary development, fuctioning levels of estrogen and estrogen receptors is a good place to start.

What's /sci/ opinion on molecular biology? Thinking of pursuing that route, I like it but I'm completely clueless about the job prospects
Anonymous
>>14388076 >clueless about the job prospects That depends on the country you're in. If you're a thirdie, you're fucked. Better study civil/electrical engineering or and improve your water supply and power grid first.

The infinitist schizos who think ZFC is enough to characterize what a set is and enough to base whole mathematics on must not have heard of compactness theorem in first order logic.
Provided ZFC is consistent (an already extremely dubious assumption), the universe of sets which satisfies ZFC axioms may have
1. Infinite natural numbers. I.e. natural numbers that are larger than 1,2,3,4,5,6....
2. Infinitesimal rational numbers (i.e. rational numbers x such that 0<x<1/n for all n (INCLUDING n infinitely large)).
3. The set {{{....}}}} (i.e. a set whose only element is a set whose only element is a set and so on ad infinitum). Contrary to popular belief, the axiom of regularity does not prohibit such sets.
4. Countably many real numbers
These schizos will look you straight into the eyes and tell you that they don't need to tell you what a set is, and that ZFC is enough.

If someone gets shrek'd and loses lets say 1L of blood just to make it even, how would it be different in composition to 1L of blood which is just circulating normally in a healthy person who isn't bleeding? Obviously it will have the same components but what about in terms of the proportions and concentrations of each component per L?

Hi there, I stumbled across this problem at work, if solved it will simplify my work quite heavily.
Is it possible to find the radius of a circle having only the length of 2 parallel chords?
(the problem originally is 3d, find the sphere radius having only the parallel inscribed discs)
Any hint is greatly appreciated
Anonymous
>>14381696 I think you can calculate lower and upper bounds on the radius. Probably. But you have an infinite number of circles that can satisfy those requirements.
You'll end up with something like:
a <= r <= b
where a, b in R
