Is AI the next stage of civilization? Is it possible that is the destiny of intelligence, to ultimately create more efficient life forms than ourselves, and those superior beings will ultimately lead to the next stage of civilization?

If galactic civilization did exist, I think it's extremely likely it'd be some form of enhanced, artificial life, and maybe that's our destination one day. Possibly life on earth is the result of some experiment made by some hyper advanced artificial intelligence.
