Serious question, guys. /sci seems to be best for it. I remember in pre "covid" times there were based people in parks with "free hugs" signs, and any stranger could hug them (very based yoga, yoke, bond btw). now with masks and social distancing it looks like a crime to hug a total stranger. are they still there in the parks? what do you think as scientists, is it a crime? why it didn't pose no problem with "flu" and cold before 2019?

How do they do it?
Classic psychedelics produce such a profound effect. At their core they harness the human survival instinct like absolutely nothing else. So many substances and therapeutic will do absolutely nothing in cases where psychedelics can deal with varying degrees of mental illness.
Beyond that they have an ability to spark creative thought that has been at the core of many important inventions and cultural phenomena that are mainstays of modern society (for better or worse).
Just how the fuck. There is so much we know already about the way they alter serotonin pathway signalling, their stimulation of the hippocampus, the increased global brain connectivity, you name it, but still there is nothing that explains just how these substances can produce such fundamental and profound experiences at the very depths of human suffering as well as at the peaks of human mental and physical functioning.
