I have no evidence but I'm starting to think that claiming to able to visualize like this is just a form confabulation. If these people really had an imagination as vivid as claimed, I would expect them to naturally have certain artistic abilities. However, people with no artistic training who claim to have a vivid imagination seem to be just as shit artists as people with aphantasia.

Also, can people who are able to visualize play blindfolded chess without any training? If not, why?

Yes. First thing would be to produce enzymes that break down other substances in food like fibers and lignin.
