>>14298159It all depends on what was used to make the bucket. I used to work with a metal bucket manufacturer in the USA that made these very products (and imported galvanized stuff from Mexico).
The manufacturer made it very clear that none of the products were intended to store food for human consumption. For pails and tubs they tried at least two forms of sealant glue along the seams, they used this goo for about a year until the CEO realized it was absolute garbage that didn't work, then we went back to the old glue which although brittle and easily cracked if you flex the thing, actually held water.
At one point the plant entertained the idea of using a chemical called MEK at some step in the manufacturing process (I sat in on a meeting or two), but nothing ever came of it. One of the skilled maintenance men expressed concern that people who are around the stuff for years on end get very yellowed hands and premature wrinkling/shriveling.
