What happened to the "muh flying cars" utopian vision and was it even practical or realistic to begin with?

Can Light make an active Buzzsaw appear still?

No.14300738 ViewReplyOriginalReport
I have a question about the interaction between fast rotating objects and light reflecting off them.

If a typical Buzzsaw blade (Pic related) is turn on, and a specific frequency of light waves would synchronize with its rate of rotation, would the saw appear to be "still". Can anyone elaborate as to why or why not?

Starting a Masters Degree.

No.14300822 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey /sci/, I graduate from undergrad next month and am looking for a new laptop. I’m doing a Medical sciences degree and hope to do some research in Cancer.
What laptop do you recommend? I want to focus on school and have no games so I am leaning towards getting a Mac for the first time. Are there any programs that I will likely end up using like geneious or alphafold that can’t be used on a Mac?
Would there be any drawbacks to studying? I think Anki can be used in Mac

How smart could dogs potentially get if humans kept selectively breeding them for intelligence over a long period of time? Asking as a biologylet.
Sorry if this belongs on /an/ instead.

PSA

if there is an average (mean) value for x in a population, that does not mean that 50% of the members of the population have more than average and 50% have less. for example, the average number of hairs on a head is 100,000. that does not necessarily mean that 50% of people have more than 100,000 hairs.
thank you for listening and remember to avoid this common mistake.

Why the fuck are these idiots making factoring a trinomial so hard?
For the trinomial All you have to do is find the factors of that add up to and then go from there.

ADHD

I'm pretty sure I could get diagnosed with ADHD if I go to some doc. Are there any downsides of getting medicated or is it pretty much just safety meth for productivitymaxing? General thoughts on legitimacy of ADHD as a condition?

Inertia

If the origin of inertia is gravitational interaction with the distant universe, but gravity propagates at c, how is the reaction force instant?

How to make a light-saber

No.14294870 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Make the handle as: 1. Emits a discharge that creates an extremely cold straight path from the center of the other end, 2. Heat the path in item #1. By extremely cold I mean absolutely no heat.
