recently I have seen multiple sightings of geckos and i have seen one cockroaches in my house. I was wondering if i should try mark and recapture these two populations to estimate their numbers as a little scientific project. Any ideas?

Trap the geckos with mealworms and the cockroaches with some waste. Use non-toxic paints/markings so you don't hurt them. You could also test the animal populations in your yard to see if they have any correlation to inside your house (ie are the geckos eating lady bugs and shit?)
For stationary animals/plants you can just use the meter square things (forget what they're called). You should post your results when you finish.

Also, take not of differing features in the different animals. Are all the geckos the same or are there some with, say, purple spots near their eyes? Idenitifying the species would be fun and help you understand your home ecosystem. Calculate the populations of the different species to see which gecko/cockroach is more prevalent.

That program you cite is difficult because the spacing is irregular and you even if your found a formula for the spacing along the critical line, you would have to prove there don't also exist other zeros off the critical line, which is the main question. Also, since RH is false it would be impossible to prove.

I don't understand the point of asking the professor questions, like that's the pinnacle of learning. Any question I have I can figure out with effort, or even Googling so are students to ask questions retarded or do they really just value the professor's way of doing thing above all others? Am electron is bound by energy levels in a quantized system. It can only absorb photons of specific energy levels, hence being an observer of photon energy. Similarly for photoelectric effect. My thesis remains. If there are no observers, then moderns physics no longer exists. I've demonstrated in painful detail why Einsteins work becomes null. Classical physics isn't predicated on postulates that require observation however, so those can exist without people.

I’m strongly considering going for a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering. I can go into my background and goals but I actually don’t think it’s that important here. My question is broader than just my career goals. I would like to know:

Would a Systems Engineering Ph.D.
a) be respected (at least somewhat) overall by the Tech industries, OR
b) indicate that I’m not sure what I’m doing and gullible for a sort of fake degree

Also - I read your sticky. Did you actually read /adv/? You know that I’m not going to get advice on /adv/ so I’m posting this on the board that can actually answer me.

Don’t do that. Especially if you are going into defense or government work. Get a masters and go do industry work for a few years to get your foot in the door/make connections then go get the PhD once you have a solid place to land afterwards. Gunning straight for a PhD in any kind of engineering is a sure fire way to price yourself out of the market and end up languishing in academia.
