Why do human fingernails grow so long. What is the evolutionary benefit and what is the optimal length? It seems like there's no need for them to grow one millimeters past the finger but they grow way longer than that. What is the evolutionary way to cut them?

Climate change and coronavirus are both scientific topics which have become too political to be discussed scientifically, I think that both topics should be aggressively removed from /sci/ via censorship so that we can focus on actual scientific discussion instead of being blanketed with endless political propaganda.
Does anyone unirnically disagree with this sentiment? If so, please state your IQ and the specifics of your disagreement, I will endeavor to reply to all arguments against the ban, but prioritize the highest IQ responses.
