Why aren't we genetically engineering hellhounds to guard our homes, monstrosities to fight our wars and hyper intelligent glowing cats to sell to collectors, /sci/? It seems we have so much possibilities in the field of genetic engineering but we don't because that would be "playing God". Why do we hamstring ourselves like this?

I also noticed my friends who drink like fish didn't get covid at all. This leads me to think about the span of human history and how drinking alcohol has probably saved us millions if not billions of times over from disease, be it directly ingesting it or spilling it on ourselves and hands to disinfect before the effects of it were known.

Imagine you're half a million dollars in debt because you just bought a new house and you can barely pay your bills and keep up with the mortgage because your job as a security guard at the jewish community center only pay a few bucks an hour over minimum wage.
So you're that guy and you come home from work one day and your wife says to you "I just bought a $15,000 remote controlled telescope, I put in on your credit card.
