Lack of Fossil Fuels

No.14357181 ViewReplyOriginalReport
How do we cope if fossil fuels take too long to come back and we are reduced to late 1600s-era technology? Would we be better off this way in terms of lessening the effects of dysgenics?

There are 166 numbered boxes. You have a set amount of points that increases with time at a fixed rate. You can use 100 points to use a fair RNG to generate 10 numbers and the numbered boxes are uncovered. You can use 30 points to generate 3 numbers to do the same. If the RNG chooses a box already uncovered, you regain 5 points. You can use 300 points to uncover any single box of your choosing
What is the optimal strategy to uncover all boxes in the least amount of time? How many boxes should you have uncovered before you start using the single box uncover at 300 points?

Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide Density Enigma.

No.14356863 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Can you solve this enigma?

For simplicity, say the average relative density of oxygen is 1.00.

Add one carbon atom and you have Carbon Monoxide (CO) with a relative density of 0.98. Carbon Monoxide it lighter than air.

Add a second carbon atom and you have Carbon Dioxide with a relative density of 1.60. Carbon Dioxide is much heavier than air, and drops like a stone to ground level.

Why does the first carbon atom seem to have a relative density of -0.02, while the second carbon atom has a relative density of 0.62?
