NASA has 5 people checking Space weather.
Nations are not prepared for a Coronal Mass Ejection EM like flare.
The US military equipment rated NBC (nuclear bio chem) is just a handful.
Some APCs and some planes.
Sure underground facilities.
But can you imagine?
The US was not ready for Covid19 and it is not ready for a solar flare.

You plenty of warning until those hit earth, they don't travel at light speed. As a result you spot one and if it looks like it's really dangerous you can just shut down the power grid and ground it which is something the power grid can do under normal operations in mere minutes. Then you just connect everything back up and you are done.

Sorry I messed up. Meant to say to evaluate for y:
a=2
b=x
c=-x^2-35

To evaluate for x:
a=1
b=-y
c=-2y^2+35

If you plug either of those equations into the quadratic and get the answer it will give you an equation of a line in which every point on the line (x,y) is a solution to your equation. There is no one answer to the equation you posted, there are info try many answers so you list it as an equation. The once you know a given x or y value you can automatically know what the other value is based on the equation

You can now diagonalize the matrix on the left with an orthonormal basis of eigenvalues.

Q is the matrix with the orthonormal eigenvector and D is the diagonal matrix with the corresbonding eigenvalues.
You can then do a variable change $\begin{pmatrix} u \\ v \end{pmatrix} = Q^T \begin{pmatrix} x \\ y \end{pmatrix}$ and you get the new equation
$\lambda_1 u^2 + \lambda_2 v^2 = 35$
This is the simple equation of a hyperbola so you can immediatly write down the solution
$u = \sqrt{\frac{35}{\lambda_1}} \cosh(t) \\<br />v = \sqrt{\frac{35}{-\lambda_2}} \sinh(t)$
(That's assuming you picked $\lambda_1$ as the positive Eigenvalue otherwise reverse that shit.)
Then you can get x and y back.
$\begin{pmatrix} x \\ y \end{pmatrix} = Q \begin{pmatrix} u \\ v \end{pmatrix}$

Alabamium (aka astatine) used to exist but credit was stolen because people were more able to believe it was first isolated at the University of California than at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now known as Auburn University). That depends quite heavily on where you will be living.

$100k/yr is upper middle class in 95% of the country. However it is basically poverty level in a few select areas with insane housing prices and costs.

If you're willing to live in Huntsville, Salt Lake City, Fort Collins, or a similar smaller city, you can do well on that salary while still having access to most of the goods and services you'll need.
