Isn't the ability to act like your intelligence a sign of actual intelligence? If you have an IQ of, say, 110 (which is still considered bright by IQ standards, but by no means indicative of the kind of intelligence that'd get you into a high level university), but you can fool not just normies but even actual highly intelligent people (measured IQ of 120+ and/or people from top level universities) into thinking you're more intelligent than what you've been measured at, how is that in itself not a form of high intelligence? You have to be able to mimic the kinds of complex speech and mannerisms that are usually associated with intelligent people in a way that successful enough for you to be able to fool others... This seems rather circular though, however if it is the case then wouldn't that defeat at least some of the viability of IQ tests? Idk maybe I'm just bullshitting and my logic is retarded. But let's see what /sci/ thinks.

What i am trying to say is that if you are able to trick someone into believing that you are more than you actually are, then you have a high skill in communication, but not necessarily a high skill in other areas such as problem solving.

Guys I’m kinda freaking out rn. I’m in senior design and I’m in a group with mechanical, computer engineers as an EE and so far we have less than a month left before the class is finished and we’ve built all of the mechanical parts to our project, but the stupid supply chain issues have caused most of my electrical parts to be delayed until late April/early may and there’s no other website that has these parts, so at this point it looks like we won’t have a prototype to show off. To make matters worse, half of my team hasn’t done anything. What do I do? Am I fucked, or can I still pass? Anyone else been in this situation before?

I was in your exact position a year ago. First of all, calm the fuck down. No one is gonna give a shit if your project is unfinished, non-functional, or a clusterfuck. I got my bachelor's in ME last year, and my group's project was an absolute joke. We didn't accomplish any of the shit we set out to do, barely had any idea what the professor's idea even was, and what we did manage to build (pic related) didn't even work. The main focal point of the presentation was a CAD drawing and making it sound like running DC through cast iron immersed in salt water to make it rust faster was a huge accomplishment. We got an A on the project because we submitted all the assignments on time and did a good job writing the report. We all graduated, and I had a job lined up immediately. I now work with some people who teach at that college and confirmed that on a good year, half the teams fail to actually produce anything. Most likely, all you need to do to pass is make an attempt, have literally anything to show that you at least worked on the project, and then do a good job on all the reports / presentations / whatever bullshit they make you do along the way. The entire SD process is supposed to give you a reasonable approximation of working as part of a team in a professional context; it's better at it than any given course you've taken, but it's still a far cry from what actually happens in a professional environment (except for the "everything is retarded and disorganized and maybe three people are doing the work for a group of ten" part, that's spot-on).

>>14373245 Continuing. As for deadbeats on your team, that's a given and there's some kind of procedure in place for dealing with them. If you're unable to work things out with them directly (you DID talk to them and your entire team about their contributions, right?), go talk to your team advisor. Worst case scenario, they don't do anything, you have a little extra work, and you all pass. Best case scenario, they don't do anything, you have a little extra work, and you pass and they don't. Hilarity ensues as they rage in your group chat about how the group fucked them over, etc. In either case, your situation really doesn't change that much.
If I were you, I'd be way more concerned about getting a job lined up if you don't already have one. That was a way bigger pain in the ass for me than any SD shit.

>>14373245 What this anon said is right; calm down. It sounds like your team atleast got some sort of prototype done, even if it’s not functioning at all. Trust me, I’ve seen international students who didn’t contribute one fiber of their being into their projects and got told on by their teammates and still passed. You’re fine. As for the project itself, there’s gotta be something online that you can use to find alternative parts. I’m sure of it (although the supply chain rn is indeed a bitch). Just wait for them to come in and work on it as you can. In the meantime, I’d pretty up your report

I never browse this board. Just curious if any cool geology / earth science / environmental topics get posted often? Even the state of Earth-science / Geo academics, which appears to be rapidly changing alongside technology.

>>14371303 Not sure. I havn't graduated yet, I am only a year and a half in of about 3 years in my program and we havn't gotten into modeling like that just yet. That would be interesting to know though. Something for me to look up on the weekend.

>>14371309 I learned about the trouble with it in my Geophysics and Tectonics class. You probably already know this but it's the boundary layer between where the crust transitions between the rigid mantle and plastic aesthenosphere. We modeled earthquakes in class but the professor reminded us that these earthquake models are all wrong and at best can give us a glimpse of how earthquakes work at shallow depths. He explained that because of the Moho at best we can throw up our hands and guess.
I know we were trying a new drilling project to gain more information about the Moho but it failed. That was like, 8 years ago.

>>14371321 Yeah. That is a long ways to drill down. I wonder if its even possible. I think each time we try, our drills fail. Its just too deep. Maybe some weirdo like Elon Musk who has an interest in the earth rather than space will come along and do what couldn't be done before. Until then we can only do basically guesswork. Much of what we know about the mantle are based of Lab experiments or lucky finds (stuff that has managed to uplift to the crust).

>>14371348 Chikyu I think was the last time we really tried and that was going through the crust in the ocean at the thinnest point possible. I don't think the drill failed, I think the rig failed. We can make drills that can pierce the mantle but getting it to depth is a problem. The Kola Superdeep Borehole quit because 95% of their time was lowering the drill bit to depth then pulling it out again with very little time actually drilling. If I remember right on Chikyu the cable broke and the process had to be abandoned.

This breeding cope is hilarious. Breeder races have never done well nor held much power. Nigeria has 200 million people now where is the "African superpower" we were promised. We are already at the point were thirdie tards were supposed to be powerful and rise up etc. It's all just cope by Arab nationalist migrants who will never achieve anything and remain powerless, inferior even to sub-saharan Africans. Meanwhile no one in the third world believes their the future of humanity. Nigerians are humble, they want to do family planning and live like Westerners and as soon as they get BC they will. Muslim nations are focussed on trying to feed their families in overpopulated shitholes. Their birthrates plummeted even while still being poor. Their religion has degenarated, even if you can even use such a term for a religion built on the exploits of a kidfucker.

Hey guys, I just got a job offer for a consulting firm as an electrical engineer. They mainly do electrical design for factories (chemical mainly),retail, and some renewable solutions.. I also have a job offer for doing Power electronics at a electronics manufacturer and while I have a lot of knowledge on PE, I was wondering if any of you EEs here have any experience with large scale power, especially in consulting. What's it like, do you like it, what do you like/not like about it, money, etc. It seems nice, but some people have told me it's a boring desk job and not fulfilling. Thoughts?
