It's completely debateable if it's worth it

It reduces fuel consumption by as much as 30%
But the space required for it makes it unappealing for cargoships that needed that space for more cargo

Ships are already the most fuel efficient vehicle.
Is the 30% reduction worth the loss of cargo space?
Maybe for small ships with short routes

Propulsion via sail is akin to renewable energy. It's more simple and efficient than capturing wind via a turbine, converting to a battery than back to an electric engine. You are over engineering the situation. Get a sail, you can even get a catamaran sailboat which is the way to go if you ask me. Smoother ride and more cabin space.
