I have the entire day off work tomorrow to make a powerpoint for a party where we do nothing but share said powerpoints and drink.
I want to analyze a completely retarded physics problem in the most absurd way possible - unnecessary Taylor expansions, bad approximations, turning physical objects into packets of their de Broglie wavelengths, etc. What would be something fun and outlandish to toy with like that?
I remember when I was being taught perturbation theory my professor introduced it to us by proving that 2 = 1 "for small values of 2." That's the kind of nonsense I'm going for. I will be incredibly drunk the whole time and so will the audience. I just need to decide on the subject. What would /sci/ overanalyze?

>water's surface tension is because of hydrogen bonds
Does this mean if I jumped 100m into liquid nitrogen I wouldn't feel a thing?

What are the odds??

No.14130699 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Looking to get schooled on probability. I believe I know the answer but for some reason I find 'odds' somewhat hard to grasp from time to time. A couple of years ago I had purchased 25 feminized cannabis seeds. After germinating and growing only 1 to maturity, it resulted in a male plant. After some research it seems that true feminized seeds are female 99.99% of the time, which would be 1 in 10,000.

So now I'm faced with either having purchased junk seeds that weren't truly feminized, or I was just in the unlucky 1 in 10k. Well over time I grew the remaining 24 seeds only to discover them ALL to be female. Since I hand picked the only male out of the entire batch, is it correct to say the odds of that happening to me were 1 in 250,000?

>y=x^2 parabola
>x=y^2 parabola
>x^2+y^2=circle
>All other operations create parabolas
Why is this?

Gambler's Fallacy

No.14127624 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Brainlet here, can someone prove for me that it is true? This shit is VERY weird t's hard for my brain to square the fact that if you flip a coin 100 times, you should have roughly 50 heads and 50 tails. But getting 50 heads in a ROW is extremely unlikely. So if a set of 100 flips has already been made, you can safely bet far more than 50/50 odds that nowhere in that set of 100 flips was a heads flipped 50 times in a row. But if you are the one flipping then you the flipper are brought along with the coin in its unlikely temporal state of 49 heads in a row so the 50th flip is still 50/50. I find it fascinating.
