>>5142805I'd like to preface this by saying photorealism takes more time and effort than I am willing to put in any time soon. I am not saying it is easy, I am saying it is a simpler skillset.
Drawing accurately from reference is significantly easier than making something up.
The simple reason being the task at hand.
>Drawing a reference takes looking at it, and making sure every part matches one by one>Drawing from imagination takes understanding the mechanics of what you are drawing. How would this surface scatter the light? What colors will be created in this situation? Can a skeleton naturally be in this position? This means you can spend a hundred years learning art and still only understand only a small portion of it. This is a sentiment shared by Hokusai.
A non realism vs photorealism example would be animating a guitar solo
>If you wanted to animate the guitar solo from reference all you would have to do is to match the hands shown in the reference to the animation>If you wanted to animate the guitar solo from imagination, you'd have to be a good enough guitar player to know where the fingers will go and how and to draw it out.Once again, its not easy, just simpler in comparison.
