Taking a year studying abroad while in a relationship

No.14187821 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Has anyone hear taken a year studying abroad while being in a relationship? (without taking your spouse with you)
How did it go? What did you do to get through it?
I'm about to start a PhD next year. My supervisor is going on sabbatical abroad for about a year and a half and he suggested that I go with him. I really enjoy working with him and I think that there isn't much point to starting a PhD when he is not around, so I'm considering going.
But my girlfriend of 3 years is also starting a PhD here and we will have to be apart. DESU, the idea of spending such a long time apart is very discouraging, and this is a big factor in my decision of whether or not to leave. It's not too far away, but also not too close (about 5 hour flight). She will probably not be able to come with me.
I wanted to know if anyone here has had a similar experience (so postdocs that left without their partners, for instance) and can share their thoughts. Of course, everyone is different and there are lots of additional details which affect our particular situation, but any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

>made it halfway through university with Bs never studying ever in my life
>start heading towards C range with calc 1, gen chem
>realize I'm gonna have to learn to study if I want to survive in STEM
>put in like ten total hours before calc II midterm just got a 99%, best grade I ever got on anything since middle school
feels truly great bros. redpill me on this, am I naturally smart or would a truly smart person get As without studying? or is calc II baby shit and I'm still gonna struggle with diff eq/statics etc

Is chemistry the only non-cucked science?

>physics
Full of "I fucking love science" pop sci soicucks

>biology/genetics
Under constant attack from trannies because chromosomes are forbidden knowledge apparently

>math
Trannified by autistic category theory trannies

I've never seen a chemist who wasn't based though.
