I only ever had to interact with one professor who I genuinely disliked. Took one class from him and TA'd for him one semester. He treated his TAs like garbage and his students got off easier only because there were too many of them for him to make each and every one of them miserable.
His favorite lecture topic was how Republicans are bad. His second-favorite lecture topic was how he went to Princeton and he knew all of these Princeton professors because he went to Princeton. If I were a less cautious man I would have jumped in to ask him why he never became a professor at Princeton if he likes it so much.
Students weren't allowed to see grades online. TAs were not allowed to email them their grades. TAs were not allowed to tell them their grades over the phone. The only way students were allowed to learn their grades was to walk to their TA's office (on the other side of campus from where the lectures took place) and ask to see them. Why did he do this? I don't know, but my best guess is that he just wanted to make office hours as busy as possible for TAs.
One time I forgot to bring graded homework with me to return to students. This wasn't a big deal, because homework was always returned at the end of lecture and I realized it before the lecture started. I went and asked him if it'd be alright if I went back to my apartment to grab it, and he said sure. When I came back as the lecture was ending, he said that my students could pick up their homework now and everyone else could leave - he changed his class schedule so that everyone else got their homework at the start of class, just so he could let the entire class know I had fucked up.
He tried turning a 3-credit intro class into a 4-credit one by adding a "voluntary" recitation on Friday that you couldn't pass without attending.
He was a manlet and hated any and all athletics. He told me that he technically wasn't allowed to flunk athletes for excused absences but he would find ways around that.

Earth, atmosphere, etc. Prof came in, started a ppt that was 40 pages, all walls of text and he read it aloud in the most monotonic voice I have ever heard.

The problem with schizophrenia diagnosis is the same as much of all psychological labeling; who decides what is real and what is not?

If i say i can control the wind and do telepathy and went to a psychologist and said it i would most likely be labeled a schizophrenic. Meanwhile you dont have to read very old books to see both of those have been accepted skills in earlier societies... and theres even science published on it, would you imagine that(not written of except in the denigrating sense in any popsci article/website)

but are you really doing telepathy or are you just fooling yourself? only you can answer that and only by using the scientific method(or logic fueled by psychedelics)...

i also want to make the point that believing "weird things" as defined by random psychologist doesnt neccesarily hamper you in any way. that wholly depends on the person and the persons grasp upon reality/psyche. so schizophrenia is only a problem if it makes you less capable.

plato would be considered a schizophrenic today. he thought spirits talked through him and shit... it really doesnt matter what you think because this world is made of dumb; what matters is if you can live with it.

Because saying they trust "the 80+ year old politician claiming to be a doctor who has never seen a patient and is batting less than .100 on his guesses while always being behind the curve" would lead people to question who they trust.
It's much easier to lose trust in a person. Otherwise, they're basically replacing faith in God with faith in Science, trusting that people know as much about the latter as they do about the former.

Is it possible to replace clinicians with an AI diagnosis algorithm(this algo would be able to prescribe noncontrolled medications to patients making it a frictionless checkup)? I had this as a startup idea, but I wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thoughts?

This isn't really a sci issue but you'd have to secure an insurer that's willing to insure against AI-caused malpractice. For example, if a person comes in and the AI prescribes a medication, which unbeknownst to it causes a reaction with another medication that the person is taking, they'll probably sue you. Whether or not they'd win it will cost money to defend against the suit, possibly more than it would cost to just settle out with them and let the insurance cover it. That's how a normal healthcare operator works, but if you don't have insurance you're very vulnerable to litigation cost.

To answer your question there will likely be a diminishing workforce in the medical industry as the decades go by, until minimal staff are required. When AI that can perform accurate, 99% effective general surgeries comes to fruition, the medical industry will be conquered.

IBM tried this with "Watson" to limited results. The first iteration was hated by doctors because it was presented as a diagnostician. Each time Watson got something wrong, doctors got worried about people ending up prescribed chemo for a broken arm. The second iteration was presented as a tool for use by diagnosticians. Given a patient's symptoms, it would present a list of suggested conditions that might be the cause. This was better accepted by doctors but it still never made much attention outside of trials, probably because it didn't fit well into the workflow of medical offices.

Not a new idea, but it is a good one. Issue is that validating your AI in a regulatory environment would be an absolute fucking nightmare requiring millions if not billions in consulting and testing costs just to get regulatory agencies to take you seriously.
