>>14225924Repressed Memory Therapy where they basically brainswashed all these kids into repeating until they believed it themselves or simply felt compelled to act like they believed it that they had been absued in Satanic Rituals is absolute bullshit.
However traumatic events, by the very nature of the shock and intense emotion involved in 'simple' trauma events, makes that it doesn't get 'encoded' into one memory. So you might have very strong negative reactions to say, certain textures or smells in the room and only brief 'flashes' of the memory because your brain was unable at the time to 'encode' context. And if it's not encoded, then you can 'retrieve' it without a 'trigger'.
This is common with all sorts of memories, like when you can't remember which way to get to your friends house, but you see a particular street and go:
>I know the way from here! This might explain why expressive writing and simply talking about experiences might be an effective technique in curing therapy because it helps provide a 'context' that allows the patient to 'deal' with the intense but fractured memories that causes their trauma. Of course, for trauma victims it's not as simple as going to a connecting street.
Not only that, if this isn't done properly, then it is entirely possible to take genuine trauma and associate it with 'false memories'
