No.14265410 ViewReplyOriginalReport
How old are you, how much have you done so far, and how much do you realistically expect to accomplish in your lifetime as a scientist? Lofty ambitions can be a great motivator, but there are few who die having finished all they set out to do. Let's see how down-to-earth or delusional /sci/ is.

Need experts advice on math

No.14264467 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hi can i start with Spivak instead of doing precalculus? Im in my mid 20s and got an interest in math but dont remember much. Ive tried a bit of Spivak before and it was actually really fun for me and ignited my passion for math, had some depression issues so stoped doing it. I wanted to start with precalc to have solid fundamentals, but it just sucks the life out of me, i literaly tremble like a coke addict in rehab. I liked gelfand, as i like excecise type books, but after talking to somebody they discouraged me saying it doesnt have enough theory or its too short and recomended stiltz and zeager but it seems overkill, is there any alternative? Can i just skip precalc and work my way through calc, i like challenging problems, but precalc just seem monotonous basic stuff that i will relearn in calc. Asking you because i think i might be biased and dumb.
