Hey everyone, was wondering if you have any textbooks that you actually really enjoyed reading.
I really enjoyed "On Numbers and Games" by John Conway and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in mathematics. It's an absolute joy to read and you can tell Conway was really interested and enthusiastic on the topic.
Does anyone have similar books that really invoke a passion in the topic they cover?

I have a request. I'm one course away from getting my bachelors in mathematics. That course is a 1st year mechanics course. I already skipped all classes and must take a resit so I must learn it by myself. Problem is I struggle with reading any of these introduction to mechanics books because I'm used to more formal definition-thereom-proof style reading from math. I know about the lagrangian and hamiltonian formalism but I'm afraid that won't be useful to the sorts of exercises I need to be able to solve. So my request is for a book halfway there, with a mathematical feel, but still mostly focused on elementary newtonian mechanics

Well I would have recommended Goldstein's Classical Mechanics, but that's a bit too advanced for "mostly elementary newtonian mechanics". I think it's a very big disadvantage if you're so used to formal maths literature writing that you struggle with intro physics books. Consider the slightly more handwavy style of physics as a final challenge you need to overcome. Good luck, Anon.

Philosophy of Mind by John Heil is a great and short introductory book on the major fields of philosophy of mind. Lots of good stuff there. Everything is covered fairly. If you're only ever going to read one overview of philosophy of mind as it stands today without a particular theoretical preference put forward by the author, this is the best one.
Pragmatism: The Classic Writings, edited by H.S. Thayer is a great collection of assorted chapters, articles, essays, etc. by the best pragmatic philosophers out there. No real commentary by the editor but it was used as a textbook for one of my classes and it's well written overall.
Mindfulness for Two by Kelly G. Wilson, very practical book on mindfulness-based therapeutic interventions, it's really just suited for therapists but if you're a therapist it has good writing and good exercises for clients, etc.

There was a show about the Bermuda triangle a while ago
The theory that was proposed, was that there were deep water methane (natural gas) deposits frozen on the ocean floor, and sometimes these would rupture and decompress as they came to the surface

This would create a situation where there was a bubbling, very low density surface where shops could lose bouyancy and sink suddenly.

There was an added effect, it was an oxygen poor environment, so any planes flying over would stall, or even ignite the air.

It seems that it would be a similar situation here, except it's already ignited

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but I've been spraying this semi-frequently over the past few months and a friend of mine notified me that if I've breathed it in or absorbed it through my skin, I've been poisoned and need to see a doctor. How pressing is this? They also said it's probably made me dumber, can a Walmart bug spray like this actually do that?
