Drugs/alcohol and nutrition

No.13427527 ViewReplyOriginalReport
So I've always known that alcohol depletes your body of nutrients, particularly thiamine and electrolytes. It also can hinder absorption of nutrients and mess with blood sugar. As a result long term alcoholics will get brain or liver disorders that are actually caused by their chronic malnutrition.

Something i never thought of is that other drugs can do this as well, including prescription medications.

Does anyone have information on various drugs and the potential nutritional issues they can cause? Does marijuana have an effect like this? What about psych meds such as SSRIs that so many people take?

Any information about alcohol or any drugs and nutrition would be useful.

/nootropics/ - Kratom edition

No.13425534 ViewReplyOriginalReport
What are you taking? What are you investigating?

>Assessment of gonadotropins and testosterone hormone levels in regular Mitragyna speciosa (Korth.) users

>Regular kratom tea/juice consumption over prolonged periods (>2 years) was not associated with testosterone impairing effects in humans.

>Kratom, an Emerging Drug of Abuse,
Raises Prolactin and Causes Secondary
Hypogonadism: Case Report

>A 42-year-old man presented with poor energy and low libido. He had mildly elevated serum prolactin with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism as evidenced by low serum testosterone with luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone in the normal range. At his initial visit, he reported no use of any recreational or therapeutic drug. Two months later when seen in follow-up, both the testosterone and prolactin levels had returned to normal. At that visit he reported frequent use of kratom, which he had discontinued a few days after the first visit.

The secret of Kelly Johnson

No.13425706 ViewReplyOriginalReport
I remember reading that Kelly Johnson, of Skunkworks fame, created Systems Engineering as a bull-shit smoke screen to keep executives, bureaucrats, and bean counters off the backs of the actual engineers so they could do their work as usual. System engineering was created to make it look like everything was top down and preconceived, all t’s crossed and all i’s dotted, meanwhile the engineering’s proceeded as usual, and the Systems Engineering and Trade study results were penciled in afterwards.

I then remember the source going on to say it was a great tragedy to see this bull shit discipline of systems engineering being adopted by the aerospace industry in earnest. Instead of keeping bureaucrats out it added a layer of bureaucrats, instead of shielding engineering from executives it empowered them to turn an unrealistic wish list into hard requirements.

I thought I read that in Ben Riche’s book “Skunk Works.” But I’ve searched the e-book and can’t find it. I tried google but they are hiding the truth. Have you heard this story anywhere? I’ve been searching for the source and can’t find it anywhere.

In every behavior I no longer see the woman but the cold and monolithic forces of biological genetic sorting. It's like an alien force and we are merely iterative games bring played in a gigantic sorting machine. We are something less than individuals. We are pieces of a meta organism designed to survive and thrive in constantly changing environments. The woman is a Venus fly trap. Her lips, her face, her voice, her shape. It's not "her" that cost these forms for herself "it" chose them. I can't get this inhuman horror out of my kind it infects life and it's on the surface of everything human

Can you "fix" women?

No.13420144 ViewReplyOriginalReport
We all know the usual complaints about women being liars/cowards/retarded etc.
But wouldn't "fixing" women cause a bunch of other problems?
If you engineered women to be more intelligent/independent/physically fit (aka "masculine"), would the biological changes make them worse at motherhood? Intelligence and strong will isn't an asset when your main role is to do menial labor and the man is supposed to be the head of the household.

‘Useful Schizophrenia’

No.13430248 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Is it possible to have ‘useful schizophrenia’?
Say for example, you had a narrator in your head pointing things out to you or - better yet - a real HUD like in a video game.
Just imagine.
