>>14339035Look man I'm a guy who's been in the ICU for 3-4 years I'll answer your questions just do me one favor, don't listen to any of these retards that I see responding to you. Sorry for the TLDR incoming
What you're dealing with is the fact that some rn's are fucking awesome and some suck and hate students. Some of the fattest and ugliest old nurses you'll meet are your best resources, I had an ICU nurse that wasn't pretty, was always a bitch, but was good as shit at her job. One day I was trying to help her and she said "I don't need you". I responded "okay but can I just watch the way you work"
From then on everything changed and I learned so much from her and she saved my ass from so many fuck ups. Really she was just the type of nurse that didn't care for new nurses because they're gone within a year.
The first lesson, dont take it hard or read too deep into it. Some people are having bad days or just hate students. It's not because you are a male. See where they are coming from and work around it.
Second, most jobs love male nurses, we can do shit other nurses cant. A patient can be physical and aggressive and the moment a male walks in they calm the fuck down because now a man is there and their threats are man to man now. Also we can do a lot of physical stuff females cant like turning and lifting patients
Lastly, Don't fucking go into aesthetics right away, please grind it out in the hospital. Those skills you learn will make you such a well rounded nurse.
When you do go into aesthetics, don't worry about your appearance. Approach each patient in a personable manner and establish trust. Patients understand you are a healthcare worker and rarely care that you are a male, all they are really looking for is trust. If you can make a patient trust you everything is golden
And I'm gonna be honest, the trust you establish with patients is the most rewarding thing in this profession.
