Basic Statistics Riddle

No.13721834 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Is your statistics good enough to solve this?

You have a population of 19 Twitter accounts and want to take a simple random sample based on their tweet rate (in tweets per day). The pop. standard deviation of all tweet rates is 0.63.

So you know N, (sigma), and you want to have 95% confidence (Z=1.96) and a margin of error of 5% (E=0.05).

Knowing all this, what is the most appropriate formula for sample size estimation in this context?

(You are not allowed to sample the entire population, obviously)

Climate Change

No.13721571 ViewReplyOriginalReport
With how far we've come in the last 70 years how are we to believe that the temperature readings from before this are accurate. Everything is much more precisely measured these days, and cities are much much larger and have more blacktop than they used to. Is climate change actually a thing?

Salt removal water question

No.13722546 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Why the Na and Cl ions of salty water can't be removed by aplying a positive electric field, then let the ions get trapped somewhere, and then switch the electric field to get the other sign ions? all the interactions are electrostatic interactions
