According to literature yes, it's mostly a painkiller and a sedative/hypnotic, the euphoric effects aren't as prominent(compared to morphine)

That isn't terribly relevant, considering we already know that many people have 0 symptoms, so some kind of immunity and the previous outbreak was too small to immunize a significant amount of people.
