I started a month ago a Master in Mathematical Finance after a degree in management. Measure theory is so abstract and even though I feel like I understand the Theory I just can't grasp the exercises and don't even know where to begin.
Any tips on how to study/practice and resources available?
Any foreign students here living in France, so far it has been the worst experience of my life. The people are very pretentious and the language is very feminine and there is little to no social interaction with the locals. Add to that the fact that I'm living in a small room. I have spent a couple of years here and If I must say if there is anything I have learned it must be the fact that university professors are some of the most racist people you'll ever meet. People who are believed to be racist are the most trust worthy in fact. I have worked multiple jobs in my years here and the more direct and human like people were not from the middle class but are in fact the ones doing more heavy duty jobs.
I really need to know what people around here think about doing their studies abroad and have their experience been so far. Just want to see if I'm the only one who thinks about it this way.
If Elon actually wants to go to Mars because "we can't keep our eggs in one basket", why isn't he building a huge underground shelter on Earth in the meanwhile? 99% of all the events that have a potential to actually threaten human civilization would still leave the Earth more habitable than Mars is now. And a majority of catastrophic events that would render Earth less habitable than Mars would destroy the Mars base too. So Mars base only really helps against a tiny fraction of events that render the Earth completely uninhabitable yet somehow spare Mars. Now if you do the math you will see that an autonomous underground city somewhere on Earth would cost a tiny fraction of the Mars base yet would provide like 90% of its civilizational insurance value. And it would help to develop technologies you need to live on Mars anyway. If he actually cared about the survival of the human civilization that's a complete no-brainer. So why isn't he putting a fraction of his efforts into this?

Petroleum is a renewable product, continously made by earth's high pressure on carbon. It is always associated to deep geological faults that transverse the crust. It has been found in crystalline basements (so not just sedimentary basins) such as in the biggest petroleum site in Vietnam, in volcanic rocks in Japan and many more. It has been observed there is a constant renewing in petroleum reservoirs that should have been depleted in the 70s.
Petroleum doesn't have 500 million year, the long chains of carbon would decompose underground and would present nowhere near the energy value they do today, it has at most a few thousand years and some are very new (a few decades) in known reserves. There's too much hydrogen (as well as sulfur and others) in petroleum for it to be a product of animals and plants, there should be a much higher concentration of unsaturated hydrocarbons instead.
The "scientist" who invented the biological theory (Mikhailo V. Lomonosov, 1757) didn't have any empirical evidence for it, it is basically a pseudoscientific theory that lacks even observations, the guy basically invented the whole thing. Synthetic petroleum has been made from plants and it does not look like extracted petroleumm
Fossils have never been found in petroleum, in 1919 "scientists" categorically affirmed peak oil, but production only increased since then, to the point in those 100 years more oil has been extracted than it would be possible taking in account all the organic material on earth's surface. Large oil reserves have origins in regions of contact or shifting of plates where there are numerous fault zones that reach deep parts of earth bellow the crust. Oil companies, all of them, always drill near fault zones. Hidrocarbons like methane, ethane and propane have been formed by simple inorganic reactions in lab settings that reproduced the conditions of the deep parts of earth.

Why are the medical community so incompetent? Are other scientific discipline responsible for major public policy decision like climate, economics, energy also equally incompetent?
