When pharmaceutical companies want to increase demand they definitely have not been hiring gain of function labs in foreign countries to create new cold and flu variants - for the past 50 years. Because that would be evil and pharmaceutical companies are unironically the good guys.
I'm graduating with a bachelors in Forest Ecology this Fall.
The full degree is technically Natural Resources Conservation with a focus in forest ecology - its basically for forestry, specifically.
I feel like just a bachelors is not enough for this world. If I'm being quite honest. I am almost certain I want to pursue an MS.
I guess my problem is, I'm not sure how limited I am when it comes to grad school. I've heard stories of psychology students going into CS, but shit can't be common.
I my interests mainly revolve around trees, how they function, tree evolution, or maybe just plant biology in general. I guess I just like being outside, I like knowing things about trees and the environment, and to be brutally honest, I want to be seen as a smart person when it comes to things of these sort.
I'm not really sure where to go or what to do from here on out.
I've been thinking about this lately. We still don't know what "Dark Energy" really is, most probably think its some extremely advanced uber-quantum stuff. But what if dark energy is something much more simple?
What if that "dark energy" is basically cosmic radiation that pushes against the universe (or space-time?) as its a giant solar sail? And since more and more matter turns into radiation, this effect accelerates the expansion of the universe.
Or what if "Dark Energy" is just the kinetic energy from the big bang? But that would not explain the acceleration.

Can we just stop this charade?
I get that these concepts make the model work nicely, but do they actually refer to things other than a places where conservation of energy needs to be propped up by forms of "energy" that don't cause things to move?
Heat energy, chemical energy etc. all make things move. And then there's this eensy subclass of forms of "energy" that don't. The concept of "potential energy" has only been around for like 150 years anyway.
I mean, people whine about dark matter, and then are cool with "oh yeah it's got energy bro the energy just isn't causing anything"
is there any point in studying if you I slept 5-6 hours last night? I know jackshit about neuroscience, but I do know that it's pretty established that cognitive functions are all fucked up unless you sleep 7-8 hours uninterrupted.
So am I better off using the day to clean the house and doing other mindless shit, or could I still retain information if I study?
Does out current understanding of physics allow us to reasonable conceptualize of a way to isolate a piece of universe from the rest of the universe?
Say, there's a 4D void (hypersphere?) around some region, and that creates an impasse for 3D folk like us. Does that make sense as a thing that could be possible with the physics we got?
I remembered some hack space opera I read once that had some alien race put some invincible forcefield around some hostile planets to keep them quarantined from the rest of the universe. The author obviously made up some nonsense fairy magic to justify it.
So I was just wondering how something like that could possibly work. Best I can come up is create a 4D bubble around a planet or whatever, and that's a barrier because we don't have a way to move through a fourth dimension.
I don't care if a machine to make it is possible, just curious if the end result works on paper or not.
