SCIENCE PROVES OUR SUPERIORITY ONCE AGAIN

No.13757476 ViewReplyOriginalReport
>The scans revealed differences in neurotransmitter concentrations among students who were studying advanced math versus those who were not. Students who were not studying advanced math had reduced GABA concentrations in the MFG compared to those who had continued their math education. Moreover, these GABA levels predicted whether or not a student was studying math over and above students’ math ability, math anxiety, or the total number of A-levels a student was enrolled in. Additionally, GABA concentration did not predict students’ enrollment in other subjects usually taken by math students like biology, chemistry, and physics, suggesting the effect was specific to math education.

I don't know how to study anymore. I was a straight-A student at a magnet high school, advanced math, top xth percentile SAT score without any prep and just the one test, full ride to college. All downhill from there.

I'm trying to teach myself something, anything, and it's just not working. Sign up for a kanji/Japanese memorization app, break my streak after 2 weeks tops. Same with Khan Academy for math (because I've forgotten everything about 7th grade level). Even trying to start a workout regimen, something always happens at the 4-month mark. And I don't mean like, "Ooh I did cardio once a week and just stopped." I mean that /every single year since I was 18/ I have cultivated an increasingly intense weightlifting and HIIT routine only to be injured or sick or simply psyche myself out almost 4 months to the day. I'm 30. It's not a pattern anymore, it's a law of nature.

I don't understand how to cultivate this habit of constant and consistent improvement leading to mastery that I can capitalize on or use to collaborate with similarly skilled practitioners. I just don't get it at a fundamental level. And there has to be a better way than just sheer willpower. There has to be, because otherwise I'm relying on something that's fickle and fragile.

What do, /sci/? What the fuck do?

Riddle me this /sci/,

The year is 2700 BCE. Some dude calling himself "Pharaoh" has asked you to put a door on one of his temples. You dont really know who he is, or what the temple is for, but he offers grain and cow in exchange for your services. You agree.

You arrive on the site, and are shown to the spot where the door is to be built. You note that the rock was a common one of the area, that had a nice aesthetic, quartzite.

They hand you a stone chisel, and off you go drilling the the holes for the hinges. While doing so you notice it frequently sparking, and emitting light like a fire or the sun. You let your foreman know, who in turn notifies the Pharaoh that the light of the gods is coming out the door.

So question. Do you ignore this for the next 1000 years, or do you devote an entire priesthood into figuring out whats going on?

The state of being human is standing on a knife's edge between the capability of knowing god, one's own existence and limitless thought

When do you think machine translation will become good? As in, as good as human translation? I've heard people say 'never' but looking at stuff like GPT-3, I don't even understand why it isn't already there yet. Conceptually speaking translation of text seems so simple compared to weaving coherent, nuanced stories out of whole cloth like that AI Dungeon game used to be able to do using GPT-3 before the devs destroyed their own codebase for PC reasons.
