I'm trying to figure out how to make a number round in a very specific way in the sheet.

I have a decimal number, I want it as whole number with the remainder rounded to the closest of the following fractions, and displayed as such

3/4
2/3
5/8
1/2
3/8
1/3
1/4
1/8

So 1.80 would round to 1 3/4
1.95 to 2
5.56 to 51/2
ect...

Is this even possible? I've manage to get everything to round to ( N x/8) through the formatting as "# ?/8" but thats as close as I've come.

unfortunately this doesn't work, like what I had before it only does part of what I want but fails at others (def a TON better tho, trying to build off of it with my limited knowledge)

It has no ability to do any of the "x/8"s, which I fixed by making it 0.125 instead of 0.25 at the end
by doing that though it's broken for "5/8" (0.625) which it reads as 2/3, I also need to figure out how to get it to round anything above 3/4 to 1 since 7/8 isn't an option.

I'm getting there though, thanks for the steeping stone it really helped put me in the right thought direction with chain IF statements.

after I fix this part I think im going to try to wrap it into a statement that would eliminate the need for a separate box for the remainder using all of it in a mod statement and add it to a quotient in the same line.

you borrow 25 from dad and 25 from mom now you have 50 you go shopping for 45 you have 5 you borrow a friend 3 you have 2 you give 1 to mom and 1 to dad so you owe them 24 now if you count 24+24+3=51 from where does the 1 come?

you're mixing assets and liabilities.

the 3 is an asset because you loaned it out, while the 48 is debt that you have yet to pay....you dont add those together.

1. asset 50, liability 50
2. asset 5, liability 50
3. asset 5, liability 50 (because a loan is still an asset)
4. asset 3, liability 48 (you paid down 2)
