I was discussing the trolley problem and thought about a variation on the scenario.

If it were 2 80 year old men vs 1 20 year old kid on the track, most people would probably choose to let the younger kid live because the old men have lived their lives already right?

So you can assume that most people assign a different value of life depending on age, yes?

From that you can create a kind of curve that shows how you value a persons live relative to their age, (pic for example)

What i want to know is what does /sci/'s curve look like?
Which age do you think is the most valuable and which is the least

Numerical methods are awesome. I wish my computational mechanics courses spent more time on iterative methods since some of these problems take fucking hours to solve for a seemingly simply babby shit problem. Don't get more started on how long these problems take in the private industry setting. Engineers there love to blast a problem with millions of degrees of freedoms.

My Computational Methods course was actually the funnest course of my entire math career. Taught by a rigorous Russian bitch who has contributed to most of modern manufacturing just by being autistic about bezier/polynomial surfaces and splines.

There's more rigor there than you think, you have to prove whether your problem is well-posed, whether your algorithm will actually converge, what conditions have to be met etc. Then you have to analyze the error of your algorithm, either through proof or through experiment. It actually really opens your mind to computers and their limitations and really makes you appreciate polynomials (one of the few mathematical functions we can actually calculate exactly).

Also, the skills in the class contain the only skills of industry value in mathematics. When you inevitably fail your graduate studies it will be the only class you can lean on to beg for work you hopeless loser.

Checked. Weirdest friend I made in the library that also played RuneScape was a kid around my age at the time and his parents also played it as well. Eventually I would play with him when he would be home and his parents would play too at the same time, thought it was cool at first until I found out from him that his chores and homework would be doing quests and training skills, and he got grounded one time for not being able to finish a quest, shortly after that he stopped playing, had his parents added too and they stopped playing the game as well. I hope they had a realization of how terrible they were being as parents and didn't end up being a sick double murder suicide story.

Because aside from infrared, the visible spectrum makes up almost the rest of the light that the sun gives off.
If we could see infrared, then we'd be blinded by light because literally everything including the earth gives off relatively massive amounts of infrared, so we have to see the next best thing which is visible spectrum which basically only comes from the sun
