Can science make you happy?

I feel like I’ve just been going through cycles of up and downs. It’s always the same cycle: I started my undergrad so cheerful and inspired just to slowly become jaded and cynical about my future. Then I got my first job and I was super happy about all of the impact I’d be having in the world… just to slowly become jaded and cynical and eventually quitting. Then my second job followed the same cycle… then my third… and now my fourth.

Has anyone actually found inspiration in what they do? Is your current job something that makes you happy and actually allows you to add value to the world?

Recently I saw an ad on social media from some economics publication with the tagline ‘Not every employee wants to change the world - and that’s okay’. But what if I do want to change the world? Where do I find that?
