If we look at the scale comparison of the 'horse head nebular" 3.5 lights years across compared to a single ant, surely there is room for even more dramatic difference from an atom to something else? No?

every news outlet is calling the white part of the explosion after the initial blast a shock wave, but that can't be right? I thought shock waves were just air compression, they shouldn't be visible right? what is it technically called?
