Then the closer b gets to 0 the larger the first term becomes and hence adding one would give you a positive value
Also for c
If b = -2
Then
A = 1/2(-2) + 2(-2)/2(-2)
A = 1/-4 + 1
A = -0.25 + 1
A = 0.75
