I think tests should be given many repeated times and the student should choose when he takes them. They could cover a fraction of some subject or the whole thing.

Also grades should be just "satisfactory" or "not satisfactory". If the student doesn't get a satisfactory grade, he can try again in the next test.

This puts a focus on teaching and learning instead of circlejerking.

More or less his point. He gave the example of a student with a high visual-spatial ability having an easier time with geography, but teaching it without maps to people with a low visual-spatial ability is stupid, because even the ability they have is more relevant to the particular domain than their other abilities. I.e., placenames matter in geography, but not as much as the visual and spatial relationships. So even if someone has a remarkable linguistic ability, teaching them geography without maps would be stupid.

At the very least, I think there's zero chance it'll happen this century, so you should just focus on non-mind uploading strategies when thinking about what you should personally do. Even if we somehow get superintelligent AGI and 100% indistinguishable VR/AR and 100% perfect neural interfaces this century, we're not going to live to see anyone's mind being uploaded

It will only be feasible if a surgeon can have their mind uploaded to a robot so they can perform open heart surgery on their own body, and then get put back in their body when it's done being able to explain what they did during the operation. This is the only proof of concept I can think of that would demonstrate that it's feasible as an actual thing to pursue.

You can certainly try. But suitable hydroelectric sites mostly have dams already, and environmentalists swarm to stop building any more. Geothermal is great in the very few places in the world where you get enough heat bubbling up near the surface, but is not feasible everywhere else. Wind is great in places where the wind blows fairly consistently, and so far the environmentalists are only moderately enraged about chopping up birds and stuff, so probably you can get away with building more wind capacity for a few more years.

That depends on where you live. Only a few places make it illegal to not hook up to the grid. If you don't live in a densely populated area, no one is even going to know you're not on the grid.

The trick with being grid connected is the regulations, which vary greatly from place to place. Also there are fixed monthly costs for being connected to the grid. Some places require the utility to buy your excess power at retail rates, others do so at wholesale rates, which some places the utility is allowed to refuse to buy your excess production. You really have to understand your local and state laws when deciding to install anything that isn't a standard grid connection.
