Working memory question:

No.14338738 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey anons, I’m a science newbie and I have done my best to understand working short term memory.

According to psychologists, my verbal short term memory is at the 99th percentile. They presented me a list of words (40 or so) and gave me another list, asking if I had seen that word from the prior list. Based on my understanding this used the visuospatial sketchpad and the phonological loop. This is interesting considering I am a musician and have good auditory memory for notes.
When it comes to mental math problems presented orally, I just can’t bring myself to remember any of the numbers or manipulate them properly. Could my primarily inattentive ADHD be affecting this or am I just a retard?

How do AIs automatically write articles?

No.14337922 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Sometimes when I'm reading articles, I'm struck by how 'off' their style is, meaning that they don't seem naturally written. From cursory research, there are AI programs on the online market advertised to write pieces to the same standard as human authors; how exactly do they work, and why *don't* they work when they sound weird?

Since the covid vaccines protect against symptoms/hospitalization way more than against getting infected, isn't it true that an asymptomatic vaccinated person is more likely to be infectious than an asymptomatic unvaccinated person?
Not a covid bait thread, genuinely want to know if this is valid reasoning

Help proving nth difference

No.14339352 ViewReplyOriginalReport
I've been trying to think of an intuitive way to understand Newtons Polynomial Interpolation method and boiled it down to solving pic related. I tried writing it out for a general number n, but it turned into a huge mess and I feel I'm missing something obvious. Any help is appreciated.
As for what the bottom section is showing, the nth difference of (x+?x)^n should give the rate of change the polynomial you're trying to interpolate through the given points y0,y1,y2 etc. More importantly, through you can use it to find the coefficient of your quadratic (n=2 in this case) term in the series. Though I do not believe that is not necessary for solving pic related.
