What is the death rate compared to the original wuhan variant? I know the data is universally shit but are there any realistic estimates? Everyone in the media harps about the super transmissible delta variant saying to get vaccinated but it seems to me that only cases are rising and not the death rate. Is this an instance of a virus becoming not deadly but hyper transmissible like the common cold? I don’t understand the fear over delta. They don’t even have the death ticker 24/7 on CNN anymore.

The majority of people I saw in public were still wearing masks here in Maryland, and we're better off than some states. We also have one of the higher vaccination rates. So the combination probably helped.

I know anecdotal evidence isn't science but I'm going to share it anyway.

-Old woman pensioner rented room in my house
-At some point she got alzheimers and decayed very quickly, probably even forgetting to eat
-When we realized what was going on, we took care of her as if she were a relative, but phoned her sister living abroad, forcing her to return to take care of her sister
-things were fine for months afterwards, until one day I smell shit coming from her room, and tell her sister "I think xxxx shit herself, there is an intense smell of shit coming from her room"
-she is taken to hospital, doctors say she is malnourished (which was true months ago, but we had been feeding her nicely for months), through serum they give her anything she needs
-a day later we see her on the hospital bed, she seems to be completely fine, anxious to return home, like she had completely healed
-the day after that her sister tells us she died, and we are left wondering how could she die if yesterday she seemed to be completely fine

Is interstellar space travel even possible?
