It's used as buzzwords a lot.
It has some definite bearings on how smart somebody is, but it's obviously not the best indicator.

It's your ability to recognize patterns basically.

Its the best piece of quantitative human measure the social sciences / psychology has producted PERIOD. Then evaluating the answers for correctness (done easlily by makeing multiple choice tests) and time spent and finally correcting it for age (and also norming it to 100 as the most average score) and there you have it, that is all there is too it. This is why you can get a decent measure of it in like 30 minutes, because the quality / speed to which a person can answer questions (note the varibility of the themes of the questions) is IQ.
Modern test factor out many minor biases like language knowledge of lower classes ( f.e. they are not confronted with the necessity to know the word regatta or other high class words, which corrupts the measure for true IQ) or cultural differences by making the items more universally understandable, like the ravens progressive matricies, which only go by pattern analysis and dont even contain words most of the time but can measure IQ just as well and often better.

No, gravity is too weak to affect anything on a molecular scale

You can build a building on Jupiter because there's no solid ground. But if you could yes it would need to be stronger because the force of gravity is greater
