There is a mnemonic I remember hearing for how to study different diseases. It was something like "DAPSIT". I'm pretty sure the first letter was D and the last letters stand for Investigation and Treatment.

I read the first volume of Apostol and part of the second volume (basically the chapters that cover linear algebra) before dropping it and reading Spivak instead.
The way Apostol handles integration is pants-on-head retarded especially for a beginner since it is too unorthodox. He makes some proofs unnecessarily difficult because he covers integration before differentiation. And in the second volume he focuses too much on differential equations instead of getting down to business with multivariable calculus. On top of that, his proofs and explanations are often too terse so a brainlet like me doesn't understand what he is talking about.
