I regularly flip from conservative talk radio to NPR just to get an idea of things. The other day, Sean Hannity claimed (in the context of the current Ukraine war and its threats to energy) that renewable energy (wind, solar) can't be stored because the generation process is dependent on the sun shining and the wind blowing, and besides fossil fuels power the other stuff involved (true). Not one minute later, at the exact same time, I tuned over to NPR and listened to a brief snippet about how they're working on power storage for renewables. To be fair, I didn't listen carefully to either account but the immediate contrast was amusing.

If anyone cares to reply to my effort post, why should energy generated by a "renewable" thing be more difficult to store? I realize that the setup (of the energy-capturing apparatus) dictates things, but the OP indicates the storage issue. To be clear I don't care politically one way or another, I'm just interested in the basic principles. I'm not asking google or wikipedia, I'm asking you.

Because we don't store power from traditional power plants (be it nuclear, coal, gas, etc) but they can produce power on demand and decrease their power output when there is no demand.

So the principle with a coal plant is very simple, you have a certain amount of power you can generate, your capacity, and you have a bunch of coal furnaces that turn water into steam and power the turbines that turn that power into electricity. Need more power? Throw more coal into the fire. Need less power? Stop adding coal and vent the excess steam. Problem solved. This principle applies to most power generated, be it coal, gas, nuclear, hydroelectric, etc.

With solar and wind power generation is not really controllable, you can't turn on the sun a little or make the wind blow on demand so you need to store the power you are generating when no one is using it so you can supply that power when there is a demand for it. This is necessary because you might have high demands for power at times when there's little wind or sun (think winter/fall 2021-2022 in Germany).

The overall problem with this is that there is no practical way of storing that much power, the cost of this is rarely calculated into the cost of "green" energy. So the solution is to build a whole bunch of gas power plants and basically use them to supply power whenever solar and wind can not. Obviously high gas prices are also partly a result of this.

I'm gonna be forced to take an IQ test. If, theoretically, I wanted to get a very high result even if it doesn't correspond to my real intelligence, if, essentially, I wanted to maximize my results, how can I train?
I read of someone here just taking one everyday for months, and by the end he had increased it a lot that way.
My real IQ is probably around 140. I'm hoping to "fake" something higher, ideally 160+. (I know I'm a fraud, and that IQ is meaningless, you don't have to reproach me, and you don't have the full picture either, just focus on the question)

An honest materialist/determinist/naturalist/atheist would just answer randomly as fast as possible without any thought as all answers you would give were already predetermined since the big bang.

In other words, don't worry about it, just answer whatever seems funnier or something.

all students in my country converge to cramming the day of the test (not even the night before), if they just don't cheat during the test that is.

Is this really less effort than studying a little each day? I wonder if there's any data on the two (cramming for tests and then using another year for entrance exams vs studying each day without the need of another year to prepare for university entrance exams)

I've been reading about science and watching videos on relativity and the mathematics behind it for many years and not once in all that time have I seen a single worked equation from beginning to end with actual numbers and results that relate to a real world event like a planet rotating around a star. I'm not saying this to be disparaging of the mathematics, as it contains the highly regarded mathematics of Riemann Spaces, but I'm beginning to suspect that no one actually knows how to work with these equations other than in the most general terms, as is often seen in scientific papers on the subject.

Prove me wrong /sci/. Show me a worked equation.

The latest I've seen, the risk is extremely small if the person infected by BA.1 was unvaccinated. It's the vaccinated who aren't developing immunity to the variants moving further and further from the original wild type for which they were vaccinated.

You would even expect it to have the most difficult to replicate results for many reasons. Humans are not identical electrons that you can repeat an experiment 10^10 times with. Humans are not inanimate matter that responds the same way every time to the same stimulus. There is so much that makes it more difficult to reproduce than something like physics.

Honestly, the fact that chemistry and materials science are so low is concerning.
